Who can come to camp?

Camp is for kids and teens with diabetes. Every camper has diabetes, so your child is never the only one checking a number before lunch.

Harrisburg Diabetic Youth Camp (HDYC) is for ages 7–13. Camp Setebaid is for ages 13–17 (Setebaid to confirm). Compare the camps to see which one fits your child.

Which camp is right for my child?

Age decides most of it. HDYC is for younger campers, who learn to check their own blood sugar, give insulin and record their results. Camp Setebaid is for teens and gives them more independence.

My child turns 13 before camp. Which camp?

My child is 7. Can they come?

Yes, if they are ready. A 7-year-old can come to HDYC when they can check their own blood sugar and their doctor confirms they are ready for camp (Setebaid to confirm). Read the age rules.

What does a day at camp look like?

Campers swim, go boating, try archery and crafts, and end the day with an evening activity. Blood sugar checks and short meetings with the medical and dietary team happen before meals and at bedtime.

Who looks after my child at night?

What happens if my child goes low or high?

What are the deposit, late fee and refund rules?

A $200 deposit holds your child's place. A $50 late fee applies to registrations after May 15. To cancel and get a refund, send a written request that arrives by May 15 (Setebaid to confirm).

How do I register?

Which forms and vaccinations does my child need?

Every camper needs completed medical forms before camp. All vaccinations the CDC recommends must be up to date before your child can attend.

What should my child pack, and what should stay home?

Pack clothes for the week, bedding, and every diabetes supply your child uses, with extra pump and CGM supplies. Leave food, electronics and valuables at home.

How are cabins assigned?

We group campers by camp, age and gender, so your child shares a cabin with kids close to their own age (Setebaid to confirm).

Each cabin has its own counselors. The group eats, plays and does blood sugar checks together all week, so your child gets to know their cabin mates fast (Setebaid to confirm).

Can my child share a cabin with a friend?

You can ask. Add the friend's name when you register in Camp Brain, and ask the friend's family to add your child's name too. We try to place friends together when both families ask, but we can't promise every request (Setebaid to confirm).

Trained counselors sleep in each cabin with the campers.
