The Campership Fund

Two ways we can help

The Setebaid Campership Fund pays for two programs. Both are income-based. On our price list they are Tier IV. If you qualify, you could attend camp for as low at $50 plus a campership.

  1. Sliding-Scale Fee Program

For families who can pay part of the camp fee, but not all of it. If you qualify, we put a credit on your camper's invoice, so you pay less.

The size of the credit depends on your family's income and size.

  2. Financial Assistance Program

For families with an income at or below 150% of the federal poverty level. It covers your camper's fee. You pay only a small application processing fee $50.

We also ask your family to join the Setebaid community and help camp in some way, for example at a Breakthrough T1D event or at a fundraiser.

  3. Not sure which one fits?

Call the office at (570) 524-9090. We help you choose the right program, and we keep the call private.

How to apply

Four steps to ask for help

Help is first come, first served. Your place in line starts on the day we receive your complete application, so apply early.

  1. 01

    Register your child

Register for camp and choose Tier IV as your tier (Setebaid to confirm).

  2. 02Apply early

    Send the complete application

Ask the office for the application. Fill in every part and add proof of income, such as your last tax return (Setebaid to confirm).

  3. 03

    We review it

The office reviews applications in the order they arrive. Only the staff who handle applications see yours.

  4. 04

    You hear back

We tell you which program fits and what you pay, usually within two weeks.

Private and fair

What you pay stays between us

Asking for help takes courage. We treat every request with respect, and we keep it private.

  1. Your tier is confidential

All tiers are confidential. Counselors, cabin mates and other families do not know what you pay.

  2. Your application is private

Only the office staff who review applications see your information, and we do not share it.

  3. The same camp for every child

Every camper gets the same week: the same cabins, activities, meals and care, whatever the family pays. Medical staff on site day and night.

  4. Why we ask families to apply

Donors pay for camperships. Applications help us share their gifts fairly with the families who need them most. See how donors fund camperships.

Setebaid is a nonprofit. Our board and financial information are open to everyone.

Other ways to pay

More ways to cover the cost

You can also look for help in your own community, together with a campership or in place of one. Here are some ideas.

  1. Ask local groups

Many churches and service clubs help local children go to camp. Try Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, the Masons, the Knights of Columbus, and VFW and American Legion posts.

Talk to them in person if you can, and bring your child. Tell them about your child's diabetes and why camp matters. Ask family and friends if they know a group that helps.

  2. Send a request letter

When you cannot meet in person, write a letter. Call the office for a sample letter that you can change for your family.

Points to include: Setebaid is a nonprofit camp for kids and teens with diabetes. Medical staff on site day and night. At camp, your child learns to manage diabetes with other kids who understand.

  3. Ask for camp gifts

For birthdays and holidays, ask family and friends to give money toward camp instead of a present.

  4. Raise money together

Your child can help: hold a yard sale, a car wash or a bake sale, or offer to mow lawns or babysit. Ask friends, classmates and family to join in.

  5. Follow up and say thank you

Stay in touch with the groups you ask. Send a thank-you note to everyone who helps. After camp, send them a short letter with a few highlights from the week.
